Q&A: Does anyone know of any programs for disabled golfers??

Question by curious: Does anyone know of any programs for disabled golfers??
I have some disability issues and enjoy playing golf. my city owns
and operates a few dozen golf courses and the green fees run from
18 dollars to 25 dollars without a cart for 18 holes.

the odd thing is that there is no program offering discounts to
handicapped golfers .

what are other cities doing in this regard.

tennis is free to the public at high schools and parks
parks are free to enjoy
why would a golf course be any different–i mean it
shouldnt be free but high school golf teams play for
free so why should the disabled be denied access at
an affordable price??

According to the ADA golf courses have to make reasonable accommodations for disabled golfers, but that has nothing to do with pricing. I have never heard of a program at any golf course that does such a thing.

Reasonable accommodations at our course would be; allowing your own cart, caddy, parking, handicap entrance, and the other basic things.

Also, high school teams do not play for free at most golf courses. The school has to pay the course per golfer, or lump sum.

In saying that, I think if you develop a concept for your local municipal course stating how it could better service the needs of the cities disabled golfers if they discount prices, you can get somewhere. I doubt any privately owned public courses would follow suit, but I would think your city owned golf courses would be glad to help out.

Good luck to you
