Question by Edithishot: A golfer hits a shot to a green that is elevated 3 m above the point where the ball is struck. The ball leaves?
A golfer hits a shot to a green that is elevated 3 m above the point where the ball is struck. The ball leaves the club at a speed of 11.3 m/s at an angle of 32.9° above the horizontal. It rises to its maximum height and then falls down to the green. Ignoring air resistance, find the speed of the ball just before it lands.

Answer by Barry B
Balls initial vertical velocity = sin32.9 x 11.3 = 6.14 m/s up.

max height:

v^2 = u^2 + 2as
0^2 = 6.14^ + 2(-9.8)(s)
-6.14^2/(2(-9.8)) = s

S = 1.92m high

The ball never reaches 3 metres high, are we missing any information?
